Inspired Theme #19

Patchwork Places

It seems that patchwork is having a resurgence this season, with quilts, coats and bags a current fashion favourite. As a childhood past time of mine I am glad to see a renewed appreciation for the crafts charm created by the hodgepodge of textures, colours and patterns that clash so wonderfully together to create a unique style all of its own.

Inspired Theme #18

Scene Serene

You can find serenity in all sorts of places, that moment of calm when you feel like it is just you and your surroundings without the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Driving down a beautiful ocean road, admiring a huge pastel desert sky or even a rare empty city street. No matter whether you seek them out on an adventure or they find you on your morning commute they offer a welcome break from the busy norm!

Inspired Theme #17

Majestic Monochrome

From early photography to modern filters, monochrome has remained an ever present style. Not just limited to photography, this simple and striking palette spans across artistic disciplines such as interior design, fashion and painting. But whether printed on a fabric or drawn in charcoal the results are always eye catching.

Pretty in Pastel

Pistachio ice cream, candy floss, dusky skies, lichen, lavender flowers, peaches. I am forever drawn to these soft and soothing pastel tones that appear everywhere from the soil to the sky. Spanning the whole colour wheel they bring delicate hues to both the natural and man made world, of which I am much appreciative!

Inspired Theme #15

Dazed and diffused

We have had some glorious weather this last week so I headed for some woodland to really soak it all in. During my walk I was treated to the sun dancing though the jumbles of foliage creating sunny mosaics all over the forest floor. Not only found in nature, the humble urban street has its own array of luminescent displays with sunlight bouncing off glassy buildings or glimmering through architectural shapes.

Sculpted Views

This weeks inspired theme is a guest entry from our Studio Coordinator Millie.

Having a keen interest in architecture and sculpture, I am aware how our environment has been sculpted around us. From the carved textures of cliff valley walls to the geometric shapes of our built environment, the sculptural quality of what surrounds us is most often overlooked.

Inspired Theme #13

Fiery Fall

It felt like Summer disappeared under the falling leaves of Autumn in a matter of days here in the North East. As is customary during this transitional season the trees swap their verdant vegetation for more calescent coats, patch-working pavements and parks with shades of fiery orange, golden yellows and rusty reds. At this chillier time of year, I always appreciate nature’s warming autumnal palette.

Inspired Theme #12

Be Bold

Whilst recently flicking through an old coffee table art book I was reminded of the bold style of Piet Mondrian. His renowned abstract works of strong blocks of colour captured my attention and reminded me of how a single colour can create such impact on the eye. Found in both nature and the urban world these pops of vivid hue are always worth enjoying!

Inspired Theme #11

Cycle Path

With summer in full swing here in the UK, I have seen more and more people getting out on their bikes. Whether they are just cycling through the city to work or doing a full cross country route it got me thinking about roads that would make for the perfect scenic bike ride!

Inspired Theme #10

Keeping it simple

I have always favoured muted colour palettes. Whether in nature, interior design or architecture they evoke a sense of simplicity and style. These tones can be found all around us from sandy beaches to minimalist buildings, desert valleys and waterside promenades. Next time you find yourself in one of these calming environments, take a moment to enjoy it.
