Inspired Theme #29

Red & Green

A Christmas Theme of Red and Green. From the red sand of the desert to the green of woodland pine, there is always red and green to be seen.

Inspired Theme #28

Vertical Lines

Vertical lines. From the central business district to pine tree lined forest tracks, vertical lines of our environment run perpendicular from the horizon line, forming frames for our view beyond.

Inspired Theme #27

Unbroken Line

They can be formed by a permanent structure in the form of a distant horizon, architectural feature or road marking. Perhaps they are only momentary, created by light, reflection or shadow. However they may be formed, their compositional impact is unmistakable, creating a dominating edge to edge line only to be enhanced further by the random chaos of the world surrounding them.

Inspired Theme #26

And Repeat

Arches, columns, windows, tiles, trees, bricks. These seemingly simple shapes can produce a striking pattern when repeated in both the manmade world and in nature. Their geometric charm is always eye catching and comes in so may forms from purposely designed architecture to the straight trunks of a pine forest. They are bold, aesthetically pleasing and make for an impressive image.

Inspired Theme #25

Painting Perfect

With painting being a favourite past time of mine, I am always looking for inspiration to put brush to canvas. Whether a stormy sky looming over a rolling landscape, a vibrant city street or a pastel sky in a vast empty desert I can’t help by see the painterly opportunity in each one.

Inspired Theme #24

Colour Clash

They say ‘blue and green should never be seen without a colour in between’ and where that may apply to an outfit choice it certainly isn’t true for everything. I personally find the ‘clash’ between bright shades of verdigris and cyan very uplifting. Whether the clash of lush grass against a sunny sky or glistening glass next to an urban tree, I always appreciate seeing these tones together.

Inspired Theme #23

Cloud Appreciation

When I was a child I used to spend hours watching the clouds, laying on my back in the grass in the garden or on a warm sunny beach or admiring storms from behind a window. I never tired of the ever changing shapes and patterns they created on the sky’s vast canvas. They all deserve appreciation but my personal favourite will always be the humble Cirrus!

Inspired Theme #22

Half and Half

When scrolling through our imagery (a regular activity of mine), I noticed a large selection of images that had a very pleasing half and half visual split between the land/water and the sky. This bold layout is controversial to the ‘rule of thirds’ approach so popular in photography but creates an interesting visual effect nonetheless!

Inspired Theme #21

Azure Allure

Living near the coast has given me a real appreciation for the amazing palette of blues you get to experience all throughout the year. From the deep indigos, navys and midnights of the stormy swell to the inviting turquoise, ultramarine and cerulean of the shallows and early morning skies, the hues of blues are certainly hard to refuse!

Inspired Theme #20

Get Graphic

Strong lines. Bold colours. Clean shapes. The graphic style takes on many forms from a minimal look to bold and colourful but it always creates a strong visual identity. Whether a black and white pedestrian crossing, the angular lines of a building or the sea stacked up against cliff and sky these graphical treatments can be found throughout the man made and the natural world creating striking visual displays.
